180 Miles to Go
We’re bedded down in a Sheetz parking lot in Hancock, MD, letting Doug rest before the final push to Annapolis. This may be the last post from the road, as we’ll have our hands full getting those last miles out of Doug.
Jeff has just finished washing and detailing the Specialized Roubaix, so it will be nice and shiny for the paparazzi that are sure to descend upon him at the finish. We’re constantly looking for new ways to motivate him to get through each additional mile, and a clean bike is one … we’ve also brought his best friend Peter in for the last two days, to provide some inspiration over the PA system. Jeff also found a new mascot, a small plastic leopard named China who has opted to become a pirate. Arr!
The crew and racer are all looking forward to baths (China got a bath!), and to being able to sleep on a non-mobile bed!
Come out to Annapolis to join us if you can, so we can bring Doug home in style. See you there!

DOUGGIE!! Yo!! from South Philly!! and AFS!! get into a rythum and keep those pedals going round and round. I will be w/ you in spirit at finish line. I had a doggie emrgency this week and had to take my vacation day for that. Olive slid down the stairs and was really sore. SHe is much better. She wants you to know that a real bath really perks you up. She is baying for you..arooooooo!! aroooooooooo!! aroooo!!!!!

Wish I could be there today to shake the hand of my close friend and a real CHAMPION!! The finish line is near. You can do this. Dig deep, focus, and padal your ass off. Doug, you’re almost home now. Just think: lots of cheer, hugs and a plentitude of muffins await you in Annapolis. Then go home and sleep for a week! I’ll be sending you positive energy all day today.
All kidding aside, you are accomplishing something wonderful. Your stamina and dedication are an inspiration to me and many others. Doug and crew, I salute you!
