Meanwhile, 3,000 Miles Later …
He did it. We all did it. Last night, after just overĀ 11 days, Doug Levy rode in to the 2008 RAAM finish line. He became one of less than 200 men and women who have successfully pedaled solo across America. He dismounted and posed for a few hundred photographs. He even had the wherewithal to stand up in front of the sea of normal people (and fans in neon green t-shirts) and tell people about hsi journey, and why he did it (raising money for CCI, link to the right).
Doug said he was just a normal guy who was glad he was able to do something extraodinary. We say, there’s nothing normal about you Doug, you’re a superman. You’re a hero. You’re a “world class athlete,” in the words of his Crew Chief. You spent 11 days on a bicycle, climbing mountains, outlasting headwinds, surviving deserts and dodging rain. You snuck food from your crew to fill your belly, when you couldn’t stand another bottle of calories (yes, we saw you!
). You did good, bub.
So there was a celebration at the final checkpoint, and at the finish line, and the one at the hotel outlasted many a tired crewmember. We were celebrating Doug’s achievements, we were celebrating all of the riders and crew, and the fact that we had come home safely. And I think we were also celebrating the fact that we could now sleep in a real-sized bed, that didn’t move, for more than 90 minutes!

Congratulations Team Levy, and Family Levy, and Doug Levy on a Job WELL DONE!
This adventure has to be one of the most difficult adventures in the world for a “normal guy” and “normal family” to arrange and complete. Enjoy your well deserved rest.
Warmest Regards,
John Dzubinski

CONGRATULATIONS Doug and team and Welcome to Annapolis! Our experience meeting all of you and getting to cheer you onto the dock was the best of the best as you are.
My SD Mahler couldn’t wag his tail any harder with his pleasure at giving you the bag of cinnamon buns and muffins. All of us found great joy in feeling a part of your team.
Thanks again on behalf of all our CCI volunteers, staff and graduates.

Doug – I’m so very proud of you and our crew! I’m still in awe at what you accomplished in your conquest and completion of RAAM (makes me hurt just thinking of it)! It was indeed an honor to be part of your crew, and it has also been a great pleasure having you as a friend over the years.
We started this journey as individuals with a common goal in supporting you and grew into a true TEAM as we progressed across country! It was truly amazing seeing how we grew and bonded as we traveled, something that is crucial in attaining a goal of this magnitude. Your crew, friends and family are so happy for you, but for now, just rest, recuperate, and we’ll see you on the road again soon!
My deepest thanks to the crew, Carol, family, and friends!!!

Wow! It was SO good to see all of you at the finish line in Annapolis…..the smiles, the hugs, the congrats from family and friends and the Canine Companions…..what a sight to behold!
After 11D/4H/59M, you looked awesome…..the tan and the scruffy beard becomes you! And to stand on the podium with such lucid words about your family, crew and the furry friends that stood at attention…..I am proud to know you!
Congratulations, Doug! You are a winner in all our hearts!
