How long have you known about RAAM? How long afterwards did you decide to enter the race? What triggered your decision?

I have known about RAAM for over 10 years and it took a Severely wounded Soldier participating in a 110 mile ride called Face of America from Gettysburg to Washington DC to convince me that I CAN qualify and complete RAAM. An injured Soldier after an IED

Athletic history (cycling results & other):

Skiing, hiking, cycling, swimming, tennis, running, canoing and fishing.

Considering all sports, what were the events or outcomes that most impacted your life in both negative and positive manners?

Negative: running resulted in shin splints.
Positive: Skiing, I raced and also ballet skiing with Carol my wife. Time together was priceless. My first bicycle race was in Fairmount park in 1977, the next day we hiked up Mt. Washington in a Hurricane.

Who are your heroes? Why?

My hero is Carol, my wife, she has been fighting MS since 1980 and Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma since 2000. She raises puppies for Canine Companions for Independence and takes care of our Grandson, age 7.

What intimidates you most about RAAM?

I have Acute Sports Induce Asthma, Lack of sleep, and the West Virginia Mountains.

Are you supporting an organization or Charity? Tell us why.

CCI (Canine Companions for Independence). Founded in 1975, Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships. Headquartered in Santa Rosa, CA, CCI is the largest non-profit provider of assistance dogs, and is recognized worldwide for the excellence of its dogs, and the quality and longevity of the matches it makes between dogs and people. The result is a life full of increased independence and loving companionship.

Favorite quote, either famous or not, that fuels your ambition:

Winners can do anything, they are everyday heroes.
From my mom.

What are your expectations from RAAM?

To finish within 12 days. Work with my crew so we help each other in this event. I understand how important an event is with a crew that wants to see you succeed. A lifetime achievment that no matter how I finish, is a major accomplishment. Working with a great Crew such as I have will make the experience the best it can be. A positive attitude is critical.
